Historical Moments

The Kansas City Cowboys became the Western most team in the National League when they joined on a trial basis. The Cowboys had no connection to a previous team in Kansas City that had played in the Union Association a few years earlier.

The Cowboys struggled from the start. losing their first five games.

On the mound Kansas City was led by Stump Wiedman and Jim Whitney who each had a dozen wins, put also topped 30 losses. The hitting was not much better as Charley Bassett was the top hitter with a .

260 average, while Player-Manager Dave Rowe led the team with three runs. The Cowboys would go on to finish the season in seventh place with a record of 30-91, just a few games of the last place Washington Nationals another first year club.

The Kansas City Cowboys would fold after one season. Other than a Federal League team, Kansas City would not return to the Majors until 1955 when the Athletics of the American League relocated from Philadelphia.
