Hockey arenas were a big part of the founding of the Basketball Association of America, as five of six NHL arenas were among the home of the 11 charter members of the new basketball league. The Detroit Falcons shared Olympia Stadium with the Red Wings, who themselves were previously named the Falcons.

Coached by Glenn Curtis a NAIA legend, the Falcons hosted the Washington Capitols in their first game on November 2nd, suffering a 50-33 loss. The Falcons did not have much success as they got off to a 12-22 start before Glenn Curtis was was replaced by Philip Sachs.

The Falcons did not fare much better under Sachs, winning just eight games as they posted a record of 20-40 and finished fourth in the Western Division. The lone bright spot for the Detroit Falcons was Stan Miasek, who was a first team All-Star, with a team high 14.

9 ppg. Following the season the Falcons would be one of four teams that would fold after one season.

Detroit would get another shot at professional basketball a decade later when the Fort Wayne Pistons moved to the Motor City as the BAA, which later became the NBA started to grow from its early days .
