Historical Moments

The end of World War II opened the door for a new football league, as the All-American Football Conference was formed with eight teams. With Dan Topping abandoning his NFL team in Brooklyn, to create the New York Yankees of the AAFC, the league saw the opportunity to add a team to Brooklyn and create a rival for the Yankees an AAFC team was awarded to Brooklyn.

Playing at Ebbets Field the team would once again take the name of baseball's Dodgers. The Dodgers would open the season with a 27-14 road win against the Buffalo Bisons, but had trouble duplicating the effort as they went winless over the next five games.

The Dodgers would get back to back wins over the Miami Seahawks and Chicago Rockets, but would not win again, losing their last five games to finish their first season with a record of 3-10-1.
