The roots of the Muncie Flyers date back to 1905 when the Congerville Athletic Club began playing football in Muncie, Indiana. After a decade they merged with another local team called the Congerville Flyers.

After a season playing as the Congerville Thirds they would begin play as the Congerville Flyers. The Flyers would be one of the stronger teams in Indiana and were one of 14 teams invited to join the American Professional Football Association.
